Culture and Heritage
Culture and Heritage are an important feature for Taunton. Historical Buildings such as Hestercombe House, Taunton Museum and also the infamous castle hotel that is situated in the centre of town are just a few of the landmarks that make Taunton really stand out. Not only these, but you won’t have to travel far to find another historical feature to Taunton’s heritage. Wandering the back streets such as Bath place you’ll find beautiful architecture and traditional cobbled streets alongside war memorials and magnificent churches such as St. James.
Vivary Park and Adventure Centre
Vivary park is situated at the top of Taunton high street and boasts both beautiful grounds and attractions with great facilities. Taunton Vale Cricket ground is based here with a huge sand pit adventure park for the kids at the top of the park. The park also hosts the Taunton Bowls club as well as the adventure high ropes course with an indoor cafe and a mini golf course. Without the children, you can sit back and relax with beautiful gardens which are also home to events that include the Taunton Flow Show and is also the home to St. Margret’s festival ‘ Somerset Rocks ‘ which has seen the likes of Status Quo and Will Young perform.
Somerset County Cricket Ground
Another highlight of Taunton is Somerset Cricket Club. Being in the Specsavers County Championship Division One division, you’ll be sure to see some fantastic games at the County Ground. Not only league games are to be enjoyed, but 20/20 games are also played here – along with hosting games for teams. This day out is not to be missed with a stunning atmosphere at the grounds.
Scenery
If town entertainment isn’t your cup of tea, then a casual walk around the hills of Taunton might be right up your street. With a few national local parks available, you are never too far from a stunning view. The Quantock Hills provide beautiful trail walks with views overlooking the sea and straight across to Wales. The Quantocks are not the only scenery to enjoy, the Blackdown Hills, Great Wood in Nether Stowey and Fine court all make a fantastic day out with allowed dogs and picnics.
